Recap letter from Mike Schoonover.
The Shakopee Play For Patrick Youth Heart screen was a complete success!
On Saturday April, 16th we screened 202 kids. The majority of screens were normal, however, a few abnormal structural issues and kids with elevated blood pressure were identified. These kids were recommended for further MD or Cardiologist follow-up. No restrictions on sports/activities were recommended. As expected, 1-2% of kids screened may have a heart abnormality. Our screenings prove to be consistent with that statistic.
We also trained nearly 300 kids and parents how to perform hands only CPR and AED.
We had a special visit from Lucia, a 10-year-old survivor who autographed her story board and had her picture taken with other survivors Gene and Bruce. Gene and Bruce are P4P volunteers who train others inCPR/AED.
We received overwhelming support from Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Cardiologists from UMP Health, Minneapolis Heart Institute, Apple Valley Medical Center and Park Nicollet. Without their knowledge & skill, we would be unable to have these events…..Thank you!
Thank you to all volunteers, sponsors, parents and kids for your support and energy. We are fortunate to have so much volunteer support. Almost 50% of the Shakopee volunteers have volunteered at previous P4P screens.
Thanks to Shakopee Schools administration and the entire staff at Shakopee East Junior High School for the great space, your assistance and support.
A very special thanks to Janni Hennes, her friends and family for their passion, hospitality and support. Your time and energy helped make this a great event.
The Shakopee screening is the final screen of the school year. We will take what we’ve learned, gather input and continually improve our future efforts to help save and change lives.
Stay tuned for more information on future P4P locations and dates.
